Check Out Lady Gaga's New Lyric Video for 'Applause'

On Monday, Lady Gaga shared the first single off her upcoming album "ARTPOP," shortly after declaring a "pop emergency." "Applause" was released a week early due to hackers leaking snippets of the track on the Internet last weekend. Following the song, the pop star has now put out the lyric video for "Applause."

The video, which is more involved than the typical lyric video, shows Mother Monster at what appears to be a drag show. Performers do their thang down the runway, wearing skimpy and outrageous outfits -- one individual is dressed as Peter Pan. The audience, including Gaga, goes nuts for the entertainers and of course, there is plenty of clapping and cheers.

Gaga is wearing the smeared rainbow colored makeup that she shows off in the cover art for "Applause" and later on in the clip, heads backstage to pose with fans and the performers for photographs. As Paper Mag reports, a number of the entertainers are stars from "RuPaul's Drag Race," including Willam, Raven, Detox, Shangela, Morgan McMichaels, and Shannel. The site also reports the clip was filmed at Mickey's, a gay bar in West Hollywood.

In related Gaga news, the singer told Ryan Seacrest how she decided to pick "Applause" as the first single off "ARTPOP," out Nov. 11.

"It's an incredible process choosing the first single," she said. "You just play the music and see who gets drunk and takes their shirt off first!"

PopJustice reports that the single was the last of the 40 songs she played her label boss Jimmy Lovine during a meeting.

"We played 'Applause' last and Jimmy said to me, 'Well every single record you've played me has been better than the one you played before it, so the last one should be the first single'," Gaga said.

DJ White Shadow, who produced the single, said he and Gaga wrote 70 songs and 100 for the album together.
